Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion— All lay persons who become Eucharistic Ministers are appointed by the Bishop. His requirements are that all Eucharistic ministers: (1) must be 18 years old; (2) must be fully initiated in the Catholic church ... that is having received Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion; (3) they must be living a lifestyle in good standing with the Catholic Church (which means married persons must be married in the Catholic Church ... if single, must be living a single chaste lifestyle. All Eucharistic ministers are expected to be good examples of Catholic living for others.
Men and women extend their love of the sacrament by assisting with the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at Masses, liturgical celebrations, and wherever asked by those who wish to receive communion; e.g., homebound parish members and nursing homes.
